  • JOINT AWG-PNW & GSOC FIELD TRIP – E. OR VOLCANICS RELATED TO THE YELLOWSTONE PLUME: JUNE 25-28, 2021
    • AWG-PNW members Emily Cahoon and Caroline Gordon will lead a 4-day trip to Eastern OR to look at volcanics (and sunstones!) related to the passage of the Yellowstone plume. This will be a physically distanced field trip, so participants will be responsible for their own transportation, lodging (motel or camping), and food. Participants must be members of either AWG or GSOC. THIS TRIP IS FULL.
  • AWG-PNW GEOLOGY AND HOT SPRINGS TOUR OF SOUTHEASTERN BC: SEPTEMBER 25 – OCTOBER 6, 2021 — REGISTER NOW!
    • Registration is open on the AWG website for our 11-day field trip in southeastern British Columbia, visiting several hot springs and looking at the spectacular geology and scenery. We’ll finish in time for participants to get back to Portland for at least the shorter GSA Annual Meeting’s pre-meeting field trips. Contact president@awgpnw.org to get more information and a registration form.
  • AWG FIELD TRIP TO THE NORTHERN CALIFORNIA SAN ANDREAS FAULT: SEPTEMBER 16-23, 2021
    • There’s still space on this field trip with Williams GeoAdventures to tour the San Andreas Fault from San Francisco north to Mendocino. The price (excluding airfare) is anticipated to be close to the original total price of $1900 (~double or triple occupancy). Watch for more information in AWG E-News and check http://awg.org/FieldTrips for updated registration information.
  • AWG FIELD TRIP TO ICELAND IS RESCHEDULED TO JULY 6-18 2022
    • Next year, AWG’s field trip will be to Iceland. Tentative cost (excluding airfare) is $5800. The trip will be led by AWG’s Communications Coordinator Tamie Jovanelly, a geology professor at Berry College who has recently authored Iceland: Tectonics, Volcanics, and Glacial Features. Watch for more information in the summer and fall issues of Gaea or check http://awg.org/FieldTrips early next year for updated registration information.
  • AWG-PNW FIELD TRIP TO MOUNT ST. HELENS IS RESCHEDULED (AGAIN) TO SUMMER OF 2022
    • Due to the uncertainty of COVID-19 vaccinations being widely available to everyone during the spring (and the fact that our lodgings at the Mount St. Helens Science and Learning Center is the opposite of physically distanced), we’re postponing this 4- to 5-day field trip yet another year.
